The Lamorinda Rugby Football Club, aka “Lamo”
is a community based volunteer organization that provides youth and school age students, aged 6 to 18, the opportunity to learn and play rugby in a team environment that promotes both individual development and shared achievement. The Club was founded in 1984 by New Zealand “All Blacks” Captain Pat Vincent and carries on a proud tradition of fielding over 250 players in what is one of the largest rugby clubs in the US. We play fun and competitive rugby, competing at a High School level in Northern California, “Norcal”, against teams from the Bay Area, San Francisco and Sacramento area. We have a rich history of developing collegiate level players who have played past and present at Cal, St Mary’s, UCLA and other colleges around the US. Most importantly, we provide a rich learning experience, bringing this great game and its renowned ethic of respect, sportsmanship and teamwork to children in our community, helping them become citizens we can be proud of.
Each year the club raises funds
to help pay for training gear, tournament fees, securing fields to play on, coaching clinics, concussion education, and certified referees to ensure fair play. Our coaches and administrators are unpaid volunteers. The club provides scholarship money to kids who cannot afford the registration, playing costs and uniforms. Lamo reaches out to kids outside of our community to provide the rugby family experience to kids from all backgrounds. We currently have players from Oakland, Hayward, Concord, Pittsburg, and Antioch. Lamo never turns down a player who has an interest in playing for the club. In fact, 60% of our Varsity team members receive scholarship funds from the club to be able to play.
The 2017 Lamo JV team was unstoppable
They went the entire season without a loss and went on to win the Norcal Championship and contributed several players to an All-Stars team which represented the Bay in a national tournament in Oregon. Many of these players are now on the Varsity squad and are ready to work toward another great season.
We can’t reach all our goals without the help of local partners
We are looking for donors who share our vision. As a sport, we believe that rugby is fast gaining national recognition. San Francisco is the host city for the 2018 Rugby 7's and World Cup which will shine a global spotlight on the sport and the City. Now is an excellent time to engage with the sport at a grass roots level. The Lamo Rugby Club would like to offer the following sponsorship opportunities:
