Ever wonder why so many young people have smiles on their faces every week? It’s because they play Rugby! We would like to see you with a smile on your face, so it's time for you to join one of the fastest-growing and most exciting sports in Northern California.

Lamorinda Rugby Football Club

(LAMO) has been active in rugby since 1983 and we continue to build on our long history of leadership. We are a member of RNC (Rugby NorCal), a youth rugby organization sanctioned and governed by USA Rugby, which is the National Governing Body of rugby in the USA. USA Rugby is a member of the US Olympic Committee and the International Rugby Board. We are one of the premier clubs in Northern California and have one of the largest Youth Rugby programs in the country.

Development

The club offers rugby for players from 6-14 years old and the club is split into Youth Rugby for the 6-14 year old players and High School Rugby for the 9th through 12th-grade players. We begin with introductory touch and tackle rugby for junior youth with abbreviated numbers, and developmental rugby for middle school students (7th and 8th grades) with the full 15-a-side game. All players are taught the fundamentals and laws of the game by experienced and certified coaches - the best part is that everybody gets to play irrespective of athletic ability. That’s the beauty of rugby: everybody gets to be an active part of the team.

Age Groups & Weight Classes

Youth rugby is played in age groups and certain age groups have open and lightweight divisions to make sure players of similar size play against each other. The cutoff date for being eligible to play in an age group is September 1, prior to the season starting. To play in the Under 10 age group, you will need to be 9 or under on September 1, prior to the start of the season. You may turn 10 during the season as long as you are under the age group division on September 1.

Season

The Youth Rugby season runs from December through the end of March. We practice during the week and play games over the weekends.
